Prayer is the raising of one's mind and heart to God in thanksgiving and in praise of His glory. It can also include the requesting of good things from God. It is an act by which one enters into awareness of a loving communion with God. "Prayer is the response of faith to the free promise of salvation and also a response of love to the thirst of the only Son of God" (CCC, no. 2561).

There are several prayer opportunities offered at Cathedral of the Holy Spirit:
Eucharistic Adoration - Eucharistic Adoration takes place Sunday 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM and Monday through Thursday from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM. Click here to read more about Eucharistic Adoration at Cathedral. If you would like to sign up for an hour of adoration each week or would like to be a substitute, you may contact the parish office at 223-1033.
Liturgy of the Hours (LOTH) Morning Prayer takes place in the side chapel Monday through Saturday following 8:00 AM Mass. When there is a Cathedral School Mass on Friday, there is no Morning Prayer.
First Saturday Marian Devotion - Please join us the first Saturday of every month (barring any liturgical schedule conflicts) in praying a special Marian Devotion. A Cathedral priest leads the Marian Devotion – Mary, Mother of Perpetual Help – after the 8:00 AM Mass. There is no LOTH Morning Prayer on the Saturdays the devotion is prayed. Click HERE to view a PDF of the Marian Devotion.
Family Holy Hour - Families with children are welcome to attend the Family Holy Hour on Sundays at 4:00 PM in the adoration chapel. You may spend as much time as you can, whether it is 15 minutes or the full hour. Children's books, activity sheets, and prayer guides are available.
The Encounter - The Encounter is a special time of prayer in our beautiful Cathedral. An encounter with Christ shatters the deafness of the secular world. This encounter “awakens” one’s heart and mind to a real, lived relationship with Christ and the Church. It “awakens” one to having authentic faith, to knowing the Good News, to being evangelized, to living a true Christian life. This is why we have The Encounter at Cathedral: To promote a special encounter with Jesus, so that we can carry out the mission of evangelization. The Encounter takes place on the fourth Saturday of the month from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m., during our regular time of confessions. You are free to stay for five minutes or the full 90 minutes--it's up to you. The evening includes:
Exposition of the Eucharistic Jesus on the main altar
Periods of beautiful music to draw the heart to open up to Jesus in prayer and adoration
Periods of silent prayer
Periods of intercessory prayer for the sick of the parish, for those who have recently died, for those who have recently married or been baptized, and for our seminarians and those in religious formation
Confessions are heard by three priests
Lectio Divina
Night Prayer
Benediction
Assistance at The Encounter - Assistants are needed to help with setting up and tearing down the environment for the Encounter. Assistants may also read the prayer petitions.
Cathedral School Moms Prayer Group - Mothers of Cathedral students come together to pray the rosary for children and schools Fridays during the school year at 9:45 AM in the church lower level.
College/Career Moms Prayer Group - Consists of mothers who gather to pray for their older children who are now in college or working in a career. The group meets Tuesday mornings when school is in session at 8:45 AM in the Cathedral lower level.
