What is OCIA?
The Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA) is the process whereby adults enter the Catholic Church. OCIA classes are held weekly at the Cathedral, beginning in early October and going through April.
The Cathedral of the Holy Spirit offers these OCIA classes for anyone interested to know more about our faith, particularly for those considering becoming Catholic. These classes review the basic Gospel message, as well as the Trinity, the existence of God, understanding the Bible, the Sacraments, and more complex topics like life and sexuality issues and Catholic social teaching.
Candidates (those who have been baptized) will culminate their journey with full reception at a time discerned between the candidate, Director of OCIA, and the Rector. Catechumens (those who have not been baptized) are fully initiated into the Catholic Church at the celebration of the Easter Vigil.
